In 1890 Bram Stoker, manager of London's Lyceum Theatre, began writing notes for a novel he planned entitle The Un-Dead. Seven years
later, the fruits of his labor (compiled on scraps of Lyceum letterhead) transformed into Dracula - his single huge literary
success. Now, over a 100 years after its first publication, Dracula still surfaces before the bloodthirsty public through films and
stage adaptations. The newest adaptation of this Gothic classic is by playwright Steven Dietz. He brings a fresh look to the face of
this popular tale of horror, without sacrificing the lifeblood of the story. Dietz's Dracula is not a play about flying bats and
vampires who seductively say "I vant to suck your blawd." The story that Dietz tells is not merely about a battle between Good and
Evil, either. This story depicts something much more complex than that. We witness a society overtaken by an unexpected darkness
that strikes even the purest of hearts. And therein lies the horror. Driven by unwelcome fear, uncontrollable passion and unsolved
mysteries that even science can't explain, the characters voyage into the unpredictable future to find answers. Dietz brings us
along for a frightening journey and the inherent humor of human nature in crisis.
